Rosewood Aged Care Facility
Health and aged care
Redevelopment of an existing aged care home
Schematic Design, Development Approval and Construction Services
West Perth, WA
After delivering the schematic design and development approval, in association with Morley Davis Architects, Cameron Chisholm Nicol was appointed to work with Total PM and Rosewood in the delivery of the new Rosewood aged care facility in its construction stage.
The redevelopment of the 5454sqm Cleaver St site will restore and maintain the heritage listed Florence Hummerston Lodge whilst replacing the existing 52-bed facility with a purpose built 152-bed residential high care facility. The new four storey development will include an on-site cafe, basement parking, a wellness centre, a day care centre and medical rooms for medical, nursing and allied health trainees.
A two storey podium addressing Cleaver Street responds to the scale of the existing streetscape. The remaining two levels are setback and recede from the street. Extensive landscaped planters, located on the facade and terraced setbacks, enhance the streetscape presentation of the built form and introduce sensory experiences for the residents.
The material palette speaks to the historical vernacular of the site drawing cues from Florence Hummerston Lodge. Decorative perforated panels and timber battens reference the traditional cast iron tracery and timber details evident in the domestic verandah.
The built form is arranged around Florence Hummerston Lodge and creates a sequence of courtyard spaces framed by a street cafe, resident lounge and entry sequence into Rosewood. Landscape and artwork combine to create a sense of arrival and a celebration of the history and narrative of the site and mediate between the public and private realm.
