Following the success of the Perth Arena, Cameron Chisholm Nicol has been engaged by the State Government as the State’s Architectural Advisor for the new Perth Stadium, designed by Hassell, Cox and HKS. The 60,000 capacity stadium will be Western Australia’s premier sport and entertainment facility, hosting concerts, major international rugby and soccer games, cricket, and Perth’s two Australian Rules football teams.
The brief for the design took a ‘fans-first’ philosophy, delivering new standards in seating comfort, atmosphere, catering options and technology. We are working closely with the Department of Treasury (Strategic Projects), the Department of Sport and Recreation and the Office of the Government Architect to provide technical advice across three phases of the Design-Build-Finance-Maintain (DBFM) contract project.
Our initial focus was to develop the technical architectural brief for the RFP, including the development of evaluation criteria. We also participated in consultation workshops with stakeholders such as sporting fans, disabled users and emergency services agencies, to ensure the Stadium caters for a wide range of needs. Benchmarking against the world’s best stadiums and recreational precincts has been undertaken to ensure the facility is truly state-of-the-art.
