Kuwait National Football Academy
Elite football training facility
Project Definition Plan and concept design
Kuwait Public Authority for Youth and Sport
The Kuwait Public Authority for Youth and Sport seeks to design and construct a National Football Academy with associated facilities, as a centre for excellence in football training not only for Kuwait but for the broader Gulf State region and beyond. Cameron Chisholm Nicol were invited by SSH to collaborate in developing a Project Definition Plan.
An elite training facility will form the nucleus of the Academy. This will provide sports science, training, medical and rehabilitation as well as allied sports and administration facilities. The venue will be able to host a range of spectator events, from international through to local sports competitions, and will provide facilities for complementary sports. Hotel and dormitory accommodation caters for visiting players and their families, with provision for sports retail, exhibition space, conference/ education spaces and restaurants.
Cameron Chisholm Nicol’s role focused on developing a technical return brief, ensuring the facilities meet international sporting code guidelines. We also developed a concept design for the sporting venues within the Academy, including the elite sports training and community health facilities.
The collective structures will form a unique architectural statement representing a distinctly contemporary international architecture. Traditional vernacular influences found in the detailing will create a strong sense of place. The architectural language relates back to the existing stadium, and the planning allows for comfortable, convenient movement from one facility to another.
