Cameron Chisholm Nicol partnered with Georgiou Developments on a successful competition bid for a landmark transit-oriented development at the gateway to the City of Canning. Combining low- and high-rise residential with commercial tenancies, the proposal goes beyond the brief to deliver a high level of public and private amenity.

Scale, rhythm and texture have been conceived in keeping with the precinct guidelines, maintaining a consistency at street edges that reflects the Canning city centre’s desired urban character.

A 7-storey residential tower and a 6-storey short-stay tower rise above a 3-level podium that sleeves the car parking and servicing facilities. Mid-rise residential apartments straddle the 2 towers to the north and south. A contemporary design aesthetic introduces a refreshing new typology to the city centre.

In the public realm the proposal includes a piazza, a market space, an urban stream, an art walk and a boardwalk. Private spaces centre around a landscaped podium garden offering edible plantings and several areas for residents to meet, relax, entertain and dine. These include an arbor structure, outdoor kitchen and barbeque area.

Convertible residential/commercial tenancies offer commercial flexibility as the community matures, ensuring economic and social sustainability. Linking Cannington Train Station with existing and future urban places, the City of Canning TOD will bring an intimate later of urban experience to the city centre precinct.
