Busselton Trade Training Centre
Trade training facilities in a regional high school
Full service architecture
Department of Education and Training
This trade training centre is a purpose-designed facility to cater for programs offered at the Busselton Senior High School. The project comprises two workshops (metal and carpentry/construction), three seminar rooms, storage areas, an outdoor covered area, a staff area and amenities. Refurbishment of the existing home economics area will benefit the school’s hospitality programs.
Cameron Chisholm Nicol Director Gavin Broom developed the brief in accordance with BMW protocols and user group expectations.
The design is orientated to provide passive sustainable design benefits. Expansive verandahs and outdoor covered areas offer protection from the weather and deal with direct sunlight. Low-level louvres combined with high-level openable skylight windows allow natural air movement through the workshops. External brick cavity walls, upper level cladding and roofing are all insulated for improved energy efficiency.
Acoustic treatments between seminar rooms and the workshops necessitated careful consideration while allowing for clear sightlines to be achieved for training purposes.
