Construction starts at SwanCare Ningana

Construction has commenced on our innovative new 124 bed aged care facility for SwanCare on their Bentley campus.

SwanCare CEO Graham Francis (left) was joined by the Treasurer and Member for Victoria Park the Hon. Ben Wyatt MLA, and Nick Cater from ADCO Constructions in a sod turning ceremony to mark the occasion. The new building will be named Ningana, referencing the site’s history as the former location of the Ningana Nursing Home. Built in 1969, it was demolished earlier in the year.

The concept for Ningana draws on extensive research into dementia-specific aged care design. Space is broken down into legible, familiar components that use the analogy of a home, a street, a neighbourhood, a village and a town. Design strategies aim to mutually support both residents and staff by reducing the potential for residents to become confused, and allowing them to be both safe and independent.

Mr Francis said that as a community-based and not-for-profit organisation, the investment represents an exciting and momentous time for SwanCare. We look forward to seeing our design take shape and become home to a new community of people.
