Master plan and concept design
Beldon Green, WA
GE Real Estate
In 2005 Cameron Chisholm Nicol won an invited design competition to upgrade and extend the 20 year old Beldon Shopping Centre, increasing its total area to 4,100m². Integrating zero carbon emissions and reusing all water, Beldon Green aimed to be the first 6 Star Green Star-rated shopping facility in WA under the GBCA’s green star shopping centre design pilot.
Design strategies include enhancing street and shop front presentation and sense of arrival, improving customer amenity and pedestrian connectivity, optimising car parking plus separating services and public vehicles.
Passive sustainable initiatives included sun control louvres, operable ventilation louvres and vented skylights. Environmental initiatives include photovoltaic solar panels, extensive rainwater collection, mixed-mode natural ventilation and a wind turbine.
