The Headquarters and Early Intervention Centre for Autism WA is a 2 storey building of approximately 2,500m² which provides a central resource for a full range of Autism Spectrum Disorder support services. The co-location of these services greatly enhances the organisation’s ability to meet the needs of its staff and clients whilst raising its community profile.
The Headquarters is a high performance workplace with accommodation for over 150 staff, multiple training and meeting spaces, a boardroom, a call centre and staff support areas. The reception area includes a small retail shop for the sale of Autism-related educational items and fundraising.
The Early Intervention Centre services more than 400 pre-school children annually and is designed to provide a calm and active learning environment which avoids over-stimulation. The Centre has an undercover play-area and numerous individual learning and group activity rooms, all designed using evidence-based research to be safe, secure and welcoming for young children. A medical suite is an additional resource.
The building centres on atrium and courtyard which allows natural light into the interior and creates a communal gathering area.
The Autism Association of WA has reported significant positive feedback since occupying the building, demonstrating success in the design intent of creating a functional, purpose-driven facility providing better outcomes for people with autism, and the staff and families who support them.
